Peacecorp and African Americans

According to a press release from 2008, the Peacecorp had 239 African Americans out of 8000 Peacecorp members, roughly 3%.

Near the top of the article:
"Currently, 239 African Americans are serving as Peace Corps Volunteers throughout the world. Thirty-four percent of African American Volunteers serve as educators, another 29 percent work in the health sector. Others focus on business, environmental, agricultural and urban development projects.

At the very bottom of the article:
"Currently there are more than 8,000 Volunteers abroad, a 37-year high for Volunteers in the field. "

It would be interesting to know how many African Americans are applying to the Peacecorps during our current economic woes and how many are being accepted.
